LUM (LUTHERAN URBAN MINISTRY:
March 2023 News from your Ministry Manager
Our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have contributed quilts, crocheted blankets, jackets, boots, mitts, toques and scarves to keep our Urban community warmer through these cold months. So many generous and busy knitters, crocheters and quilters! And heartfelt thanks to everyone who help to make our bagged meals and our over-all operation possible!
Urban Lutheran Ministry Sunday Worship: Our worship services have resumed once again now that pandemic worries have lessened. The door opens at 1:00 and the worship service is from 1:30 – 2:15. We have communion at every service and our children’s tables are filled with busy children colouring. We invite our MNO congregation members to drop in to our worship services anytime!
• Those attending the worship service receive their bagged lunch when leaving at 2:15 p.m.
• Bagged lunches are distributed at the side door on Sunday between 1:00 and 2:00 for those not coming in for the service.
Men’s Lunch/Sharing Circle: Every Wednesday at noon until 1:30. We’re having really great discussions! Some of the guys are new to our lunch/sharing circle and many of the “old group” are gathering around the table once again! Ages range from the 20s to the 80s! Just ring the doorbell to the left of the side door. We welcome MNO congregation men to drop in and sit with us.
Women’s Sharing Circle: Every Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:30. Coffee/tea/hot chocolate & dessert. We’re all catching up on the past three pandemic years. We’re having lively conversation, laughter and sometimes a few tears. In our women’s sharing circle ages also range from the 20s to the 80s! Just ring the doorbell to the left of the side door. We welcome MNO congregation women to drop in and sit with us.
We plan to resume the Thursday Co-ed Sharing Circles sometime in March. A women’s drop-in following the Wednesday Women’s Sharing Circle is also in the planning stages - after school so that children can attend with them and be busy with arts and crafts while the women drink coffee and tea….and visit together.
As our worship services have resumed and sharing circles are once again starting up, bagged meal distribution continues outside the side door on Wednesdays and Thursdays (and Sundays) at the times listed on the door.
Our website: www.theurban.ca. Please keep our vulnerable Lutheran Urban Ministry community in your prayers. Please contact me: rhonda@theurban.ca for additional information, or to have your meal team added to the calendar.
Kind regards,
Rhonda Gorham, Ministry Manager, Lutheran Urban Ministry Corp.
MNO SYNOD
The Lutheran Theological Seminary seeks to serve three main purposes:
-provide education about Christian thought and leadership for people who want to increase their understanding and skills.
-train leaders for parish ministry
-offer curriculum for local and lay leadership training
Since 2019, through the Lay Academy, the seminary provides ready-to-use materials for training local and lay church leaders. These course materials take instructors and students through preparation in many aspects of ministry. The curricula are designed for easy use, so that anyone with a theology degree can teach them.
Together with the Anglican and United Church of Canada partner seminaries in the Saskatoon Theological Union, the seminaries form the largest theological faculty in Western Canada, a unique ecumenical- and Canadian-based community of leadership formation.
Watch for information about an opportunity to gather with seminary president, William Harrison, on April 13,2023 at 7pm. Epiphany Lutheran Church 200 Dalhousie Dr. Winnipeg for an evening of conversation, fellowship and learning. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the exciting new developments at LTS associated with “Our Classroom is Western Canada” and the STU (Saskatoon Theological Union). We look forward to a
