News from your Ministry Manager
A Message of Thankfulness
It is impossible to thank everyone specifically for your generosity and prayers. It is really overwhelming to see the consistent generosity from individuals and congregations towards the Lutheran Urban Ministry for the countless needs of daily operation.
Volunteers from congregations – I could fill two pages and here are just a very few examples of this invaluable help: - the two who pick up the Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank twice a month and deliver it to the Urban and the two who arrive to help sort it into the client boxes; - the two ladies from Arms of the Cross who help in the kitchen and in so many other ways; - a volunteer who stops by every Wednesday morning and helps to sort clothing and food donations; - the volunteer who cooks for the Men’s Group and fills in with creating tasty meals for 100 people (out of miscellaneous food in our freezer) when the meal team calendar is empty for that day; - the two board members who organize and run the monthly no-charge family bingo; - the board member who washes dishes every Thursday after the supper; - the cookie bakers, the coffee loaf baker, and the soup makers; - and my wonderful helper in the pantry!
Christmas Gift Bags We thank so many people for donating the items that have gone into the Urban Christmas gift bags! This year we are filling 180 gift bags: 60 each for men, women and children/youth. As of today, I have recorded 50 names with ages ranging from newborn to 18 years of age and we will fill an additional ten bags. Their bags will be tailored to age, etc. These are children and teenagers who attend with parents and/or grandparents (some regularly, some occasionally).
The Urban has also received a wonderful gift of Christmas bags of toiletries and socks for men and women. These will all be given at the same time (Sunday, December 23 during the lunch following the worship service).
The Men’s Group and the men’s gift bags will all include plastic thermos cups with lids because of the generosity of a gift of 100 of these mugs. Quilts A quilt draw has been held on the first three Sundays of December with a total of 32 quilts given to happy recipients. The names of those who wished to have a quilt were placed in an ice cream pail and names were drawn after the worship services. The work of many hands in Manitoba went into the making of these quilts and we appreciate the generosity in giving them to the Urban to distribute.
Please visit our newly designed website! The website address is the same (www.theurban.ca). Our new website supports video and will regularly feature short snippets of happenings at the Urban! Thank you to the meal teams who ensure that no one leaves the Urban hungry, and to all those who donate groceries for our emergency food. Our website calendar shows available dates for meal teams: http://www.theurban.ca/calendar.php Please contact me: rhonda@theurban.ca for additional information, or to have your meal team added to the calendar.

LUTHER VILLAGE
Giving Challenge
Under God's grace, Luther Village exists to provide Christian ministry in a harmonious outdoor setting to give all individuals the opportunity for growth and renewal of mind, body, and soul.
While our ministry is strong and vibrant, our infrastructure is ageing and has left us with a number of urgent projects for next year: repairing flooring and floor joists in the Dining Hall and Kitchen, fixing the Dining Hall roof that is starting to leak, upgrading cabins, replacing sinking docks.
With help from donors like you, we are able to continue to be a vibrant Christian community where all are welcome! Thank you for prayerfully considering what you can donate this year.
