Proposed Purpose and Guiding Principles for St. Luke’s Zion:

Our purpose is to share God’s love with all people.

Guiding Principles:

  1. Jesus is Lord and Saviour.
  2. Prayer and worship strengthen us.
  3. Faith is expressed in action, compassion and sharing.
  4. All people are welcome through God’s grace.
  5. Jesus forgives, heals, and sets free.
  6. We trust in God and are open to the Holy Spirit.

Continue to pray, and study, and discuss!  Thank you to all who participated in the discussion groups in November!

Baptism Commemoration

Inspired by the congregational pledge made in the service of Holy Baptism (see page 228, EvLW), we will be including names of those baptized at St. Luke's Zion in our monthly newsletters.  We hope this will be a reminder to lift them up in prayer, wherever they may be in their faith-walk.  The following were baptized in the month of February in previous years:

Madison, Tyson, Brendyn, Madison, Ben, Neveah.

“Thank You” to all who generously donated foodstuffs and money, to make up 2 Christmas Hampers for 2 related families, former refugees from Bosnia. Randy Iwanicki and Don Edel (along with NEST rep. Ethel Mair) delivered the hampers before the holiday. The families were very thankful, and warmly welcomed their “guests” with special Turkish Coffee!  “Thank You” again to all who took part!

The “Applebee Flapjack Fundraiser” Jan. 24th was again enjpyed! Although not as many as previously participated in this breakfast, tickets and donations netted NEST approx. $720.00.  More thanks!

Sponsorships:  There are still several families waiting in the “queue”, for interviews or further word on their applications.

NEST sponsorship of the KOBWA family was completed Dec. 11, 2014.  The mother, KAHINDISA attends English classes in the morning and French in the afternoon.  She and her children CLAUDE and BELINDA (who work) now have access to the “Employment Income Assistance” program.  EIA (French speaking) will cover their whole rent.  The have moved into an apartment in St. Boniface.

Cousin SANDRA (High school and works part-time) and brother SHALIRI (full-time at Palliser’s Furniture) have their own (Manitoba Housing) apartment.

A refugee family of 6, originally from the CONGO, have been accedpted by the American Immigration.  They arrived in Florida in mid-December.  This opportunity was offered while they awaited Nairobi’s decision for entry to Canada.  NEST is no longer responsible for this family.
