MITTEN TREE

Thank you to all our gifted knitters for their hard work!  You will help keep many children warmer this winter.  Items were distributed to children at the food bank and also in our hampers.

THANK YOU to Pastor Don Engel for filling in for Pastor Lynne.  We appreciate all that you do for us.

THANK YOU to Donna Engel for being our interim organist and choir director.  Your music has been a blessing to us all.  Thank you also to Krista Engel for her flute accompaniment.

UPCOMING EVENT

Come out and enjoy the music of The Peacemakers, That Awkward Moment and Cal Cowieson on Saturday, January 6th, 8:00 p.m. at the Ellice Theatre.  Cost is $5.00.  Come out for supper and/or coffee and dessert prior to the show and support New Life Ministries!

Billious Pond

We have been in the recording studio last month and hopefully within the next few weeks (early January) we should have a C.D. to offer to those who would like a copy.  The only thing we ask is that a minimum donation of $10 be given to us and we will forward all monies collected to New Life Ministries in memory of Pastor Harry Lehotsky.  Please note all costs associated with the making of the C.D. have been paid for therefore every dollar we receive will go to New Life Ministries.

About the C.D. - It is called "The Foot of Calvary" and is a collection of thirteen gospel songs; seven were written by Bill and six are renditions of other gospel songs.  The making of the C.D. had two goals in mind.  One was to put down on C.D. with musical backup the seven original songs that had never been recorded before.  The second was for us to do something in honour of Pastor Lehotsky.  The C.D. is not really of commercial quality; rather it has more of a live performance feel about it. As you listen to the C.D.  from the first words "Give my life for Jesus" right to the very last words of "Welcome Home!" it will definitely take you on a journey.  We hope that you will find the C.D. a blessing.

In Christ's love,

Bill, Bob, Don, & Dave

Please remember Pastor Lynne in your Prayers.

A TOAST TO BREAD

BREAD.  The staff of Life.  One important component of the health chart and so we continue to pray:  Give us this day our daily bread.

BREAD.  The tantalizing aroma of fresh baked bread.  How it arouses our senses to its refreshing taste.  We walk through the bakery aisles and lose count of its many varieties.  Together let us name some:  white, brown and rye, fruit, cherry and sourdough, seven grain, twelve grain and alfalfa plain, cheese, onion, and garlic, alpine, pumpernickel, and organic, and the list goes on.  Let us not forget those specialties throughout the year:  German stollen for Christmas, Ukrainian paska for Easter, English hot cross bun for Good Friday, and Jewish Matzah for the Passover.

BREAD.  What do we do with leftover bread?  Here are a few of its many uses.  First do not forget our feathered friends.  They love those crumbs, especially during our cold winter months.  Here are some of my favourite uses:  stuffing for chicken, goose and turkey, ground crumbs to enhance the taste of fish, chicken and pork; delicious for dried fruit bread pudding; and even may be made into coconut sweet bread fingers for dessert.  But to me, chicken soup would never be complete without round butter-bread dumplings (with lots of allspice).  Are you ready to add to my list?  Please do.

This litany to BREAD would not be complete without the words of Jesus at the Last Supper when he took the bread and broke it, saying:  "Take, eat, this is my body broken for you."

BREAD sanctified.

"Come, let us break bread together."
