CHURCH YARD SALE

The Church Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, June 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., RAIN or SHINE!!

Saleable items can be brought to the church starting on the morning of Sunday, June 9th. Additional donations will be gladly accepted during the following times:

 Sunday, June 9th - 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Monday, June 10th - 12:00noon2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday, June 11th - 12:00noon2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, June 12th - 12:00noon2:00 p.m. (No evening collection)
Thursday, June 13th - 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday, June 14th - 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

All yard sale donations will be sorted in the church basement prior to the sale. Since we have no means of collecting goods ourselves, could you please make your own arrangements for bringing all contributions (including big ticket items) to the church. (*Hopefully most donations can be brought to the church during the times mentioned above. If you happen to bring your items at another time, please leave your donation by the church doors.)
Many of the youth will be helping with the yard sale, wherever needed, but extra helpers are always required especially for the set up on the morning of the sale, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.. ( eg. carrying out tables, boxes and general set-up.) In addition, extra helpers are always needed at the end of the day (3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.) when we are packing items not sold and returning tables to the church basement. Perhaps you might like to help in some other way? (eg. Rainbow auction; unpacking and pricing items; donating items for the sale; relief work; general security; etc.) If you can help in any way, yourassistance would be greatlyappreciated. It is our wish to make this yard sale another huge success.

FIESTA DAY

On June 8th from 10am – 2pm the West Kildonan Horticulteral Society is holding their annual plant sale. This will be held at the corner of Partridge and Andrews behind the MacGregor Fire Station. We will be selling perennials, annuals, hostas, vegetables, herbs at very reasonable prices. There also will be a raffle with great prizes, yard sale items, bake table and hot dogs. Try to come out and support our club. This sale goes back into beautifying our community. In previous years we have purchased boulevard planters that are on McPhillips, Main St.(near Chief Peguis bridge) and KildonanPark. We have also supported community garden projects and the Youth Garden Projects for teenage students to participate in during the summer holidays.

 Defibrillator at St Luke Zion?

At the Annual Meeting in February this year, the possibility of purchasing an automated external defibrillator (AED) was raised. This has become common in public places and is an important tool in providing treatment for sudden cardiac arrest. At the time of the meeting, the price of a reconditioned AED was given as $800 and a new AED between $1500-2000. At subsequent Church Council meetings, information was brought forward that reconditioned devices are not available in Winnipeg and new devices are recommended. The current estimate is $1600 which includes a 5-year battery pack, one set of adult pads, a manual and warranty, but does not include options such as pediatric pads ($135), an extra set of adult pads ($60) or training of first responders ($35 each). With the addition of tax and shipping, plus the listed options, and perhaps training cost for 5 people, the final figure would be about $2100. There are no known subsidies available.

At the Annual Meeting, a motion was made for Council to look further into purchase of an AED and to use funds from our Memorial Fund (approximately $1800 balance). However Council would like more input from the Congregation and is considering a survey. If you have any comments on this issue, please relay to Randy Iwanicki or Evelyn Roloff.

INSPIRATIONAL FATHER’S DAY QUOTES
The greatest gift I ever had
Came from God; I call him Dad!

“Sometimes the poorest man leaves his children the richest inheritance.”
--Ruth E. Renkel
“God made you my Dad
Love made me your Friend.”

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

My Hero

My hero is the quiet type,
No marching bands, no media hype,
But through my eyes it's plain to see,
A hero, God has sent to me.
With gentle strength and quiet pride,
All self-concern is set aside,
To reach out to his fellow man,
And be there with a helping hand.
Heroes are a rarity,
A blessing to humanity.
With all they give and all they do,
I'll bet the thing you never knew,
My hero has always been you.
