GOOD NEWS!
We received word from NORA RODRIGUEZ that happily her mother, Susanna, will be united with the family here. Nora and her husband Antonio Quijada arrived from El Salvador (a country in crisis) in 1989, with a small family of small children and 2 young nephews. Since that time, the ‘children’ are young adults and have University degrees. Daughter Angela (BA/ED) has married and is the mother of 2 year old Rory, and furthering her education. Nora has been in the process of bringing her mother home for the past 6 years. Susanna is alone in Costa Rica and in need of care. After a lengthy process, appeal and final interview the application has been accepted as Nora takes full responsibility. The family (and NEST friends) are excited and looking forward to welcoming their mother and grandmother late in December or early January – in mid-winter, too!
DISAPPOINTING NEWS:
We were also informed that the application of the 2 partners, from the Congo and Columbia have had their requests denied. Possible appeals are being considered, but more information is required.
NEST General Meeting is Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberley Avenue. All are Welcome! Refreshments follow.
NEST annual meeting is tentatively set for April 23, 2013.
Could we consider hosting a fund raising ‘pot-luck’ supper at St. Luke’s Zion in the New Year?
NEST looks after the publicity (posters), tickets, guest-speaker, EMCEE, etc. For future arrivals,
we will need approximately $10.000.00 in addition to our current assets.
Thank You, always for your continued interest, support, and prayers.

FOOD BANK
We are running low on food for our own Food Bank and we are asking for donations of non-perishable food items and monetary donations as well. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank You!
EDITOR’S DESK:
OUR CHRISTMAS STORE
will be open again this year. We are looking for new or gently used items for the store. These can be anything from costume jewellery, bath sets, kitchen utensils, to knit socks and slippers. We also sell blankets and we particularly need toys. We charge very little for people to shop and it provides a real sense of Christmas to many. The money raised will be used to purchase goats or chickens for a third world community. Donation drop off can be any Thursday afternoon at Lutheran Church of the Cross at 560 Arlington Street. December 20th will be the evening that children will get to “shop” for family members. Perhaps you would like to volunteer as an assistant shopper and wrapper for the children.
